Evaluation of a new foam to increase skin hydration of the foot in type 2 diabetes: a pilot study

A team from the Outpatient Clinic of the Diabetic Foot, Second Department of Internal Medicine, Democritus University of Thrace, Alexandroupolis, Greece has produced a report, looking at the efficacy of the Neuropad® Foot Repair Foam.

1. Purpose of the Study

The study evaluated whether Neuropad® Repair Foam could significantly improve skin hydration in the feet of adults with type 2 diabetes—a group especially prone to dry, cracked skin and related complications. The trial measured skin capacitance (a hydration indicator) on the plantar surface before and after using the foam, compared to untreated feet.

2. Significant Hydration Boost

Application of the foot foam resulted in substantial increases in skin capacitance, indicating a marked improvement in moisture levels. Treated areas showed superior hydration compared to untreated controls, demonstrating the foam’s powerful moisturizing action.

3. Support for Skin Barrier Strength

By elevating hydration in the stratum corneum, the foam reinforces the skin’s barrier function. This enhanced barrier resilience helps protect against dryness-induced micro-injuries—key in preventing foot issues in diabetic populations.

4. Ideal for High-Risk Populations

Consistent use of the foam could reduce the incidence of fissures, calluses, and infections in individuals with compromised skin, such as older adults and those with peripheral neuropathy. It offers a practical approach to enhance foot health and reduce the risk of complications.

5. Convenient and Compliant Formulation

As a foam, it’s easy to apply, absorbs quickly, and leaves no greasy residue—ideal for regular use. This user-friendly format encourages consistent application, which is essential for maintaining healthy, hydrated skin.

6. Conclusion

Neuropad® Repair Foam delivers clinically proven hydration, strengthens the skin barrier, and offers a practical and pleasant application experience—making it a valuable daily care companion, especially for those at high risk of foot problems.
